Component Guide

47µF 10V Electrolytic Capacitor

Location: CE1

Capacitors help stabilize voltage by smoothing out fluctuations in the power supply feeding nearby components. Electrolytic capacitors have a finite lifespan—typically 20–30 years—and given the age of most Sega Dreamcast consoles, replacement is recommended as preventive maintenance.

⚠️ Polarity matters: install the capacitor with the correct orientation. The positive lead must match the PCB’s marked positive pad as shown in the diagram above.

72V 400mA Resettable Fuse (PTC Polyfuse)

Location: F1

This fuse protects the Dreamcast from overcurrent conditions that could damage sensitive components on the controller port board. This kit includes a resettable (PTC) fuse upgrade, which automatically restores functionality after an overload condition is removed.

If the fuse trips, power must be removed to allow it to cool and reset—no replacement is required.

Coin Cell Battery Holder

Location: BT1

From the factory, the Dreamcast uses a soldered rechargeable ML2032 battery, which makes replacement inconvenient when it eventually fails. This battery holder upgrade allows for tool-free battery replacement in the future, eliminating the need for repeated soldering.

13Ω 0.5W Resistor

Location: R1

Resistors generally have a very long service life and rarely fail. This resistor is included as an optional replacement in the event of physical damage, corrosion, or confirmed out-of-spec readings.

ML2032 Rechargeable Battery

Location: BT1

The Maxell ML2032 3V rechargeable lithium battery is the recommended replacement for the stock CMOS battery and matches the original charging design of the Dreamcast.

💡 Battery Recharge: After installing a new ML2032 rechargeable battery, it is recommended to leave the Dreamcast powered on for 1–2 hours to allow the battery to recharge.
